Bob, Francine and Wayne = all humans? Adults? Gender relevant? Was it actually Wayne's birthday? Were Bob and Francine genuine in wishing him a happy birthday? Were they intentionally trying to upset him? "Perhaps this was his plan all along" his = Wayne's? Bob's? Francine's?

Was it his birthday? Were they mistaken about his birthday? Did he cause them to disappoint him? Was he testing them?
