This morning, I was in the office lobby waiting for the lift. I saw a woman approaching. 'Floor 11?' I asked. She replied yes, so I pressed the button to let her in.

I had never seen her before, she was totally nondescript in her dress, had no distinguishing features, and was not carrying anything other than an ordinary handbag. How did I know she wanted to go to floor 11?

If not, did you determine that this one did due to something you saw? Heard? Knew? Felt? Deduced? Guessed? If it was something you saw, was it an object? An action? A behavior? If it was something you heard, was it speech? Music? Noise?

Was she ascending to floor 11? Descending? Was floor 11 the lowest floor this elevator went to? The highest? Was it clear that floor 11 was her ultimate destination? That she wanted to go to another floor after getting to floor 11? Was she wearing something that she would only have been wearing if she'd been going outside, so you knew she wanted to get as close to the main doors as possible? Or if she was staying inside, was she wearing something that indicated what floor she needed to go to?

You had never seen her before, but did you know who she was?

Is your job relevant? Was she there to see you? Does she also work in the building? Is her job relevant? Was she there as a customer? Patient?

Was there anyone with her? Did she have something relevant with her? Did she signal you that she wanted to go to floor eleven? In the seconds before this puzzle began, did you hear a woman yell, "HOLD THE ELEVATOR, I NEED TO GO TO FLOOR ELEVEN!!"?

Level 11 in my building is an OBGYN's practice. Visibly pregnant women - such as our heroine - heading to and from that floor are a common sight.

There was a chance that she was a heavily pregnant employee of one of the departments headquartered there, but she wasn't wearing a lanyard (required to unlock the relevant floors)
