SPOILER:
The heavy winter jacket with the faux fur hood trim is warm and nice in the winter, but being able to switch to a lighter jacket and go hoodless when it gets warm in the spring is even nicer.

I only needed my heavy winter coat for a week or two this year, but I feel you with regard to the peripheral vision impairment. Especially dangerous when you're a pedestrian on a shared bike lane / sidewalk
