[Doriana] 2013 called, they want their meme back

Postby Doriana » Fri Jun 25, 2021 1:08 pm

Two friends, Abby (H/A/F) and Jamie (H/A/M), are going for a walk. Abby points at something and says "Look, a _______!". "How fitting", Jamie replies, "but if you think it all the way through, the implications are rather worrisome."

Loosely based on a true story that happened to me

Is a meme, from 2013 or otherwise, relevant?

Does Abby call something what it is at face value (e.g. 'Look, a cow!') or does she take what she sees and make some inference or put it in some context (e.g. 'look, irony!' if she saw a couple getting married in the rain)? Does Abby describe the sight accurately? Would it be described by everyone in the same way?

Did she see a living thing? An inanimate object? A natural phenomenon? Some change in the state or nature of something (like a mosquito bite on a person or a streak of paint on a building)?

Did Abby invent a word? Did she say it in german? Relevant? Relevant that german words are often a composite of more words?

Did Abby see an animal? A human? A common animal? A bird? A cat? A dog? An animal with some special charachteristics? A real world living thing? A cartoon?
Did Abby see the living thing: on a phone? Binoculars? Live? Near her? On a screen?

How fitting = how appropiate the name Abby gave to the livong thing? How something fitted to the living thing?

Consequence = for someone in particular? For the livibg thing? For nature? For seas? for human beings? Pollution relevant? Environment?

Covid relevant?

WAG: something like Abby saw an animal who usually live in very hot regions. The fact that it was there meant that climate was warringly changes

Did Abby invent a word? No Did she say it in german? Relevant? She said it in the local language (Dutch in the scenario this puzzle is based on), but the actual language is not relevant Relevant that german words are often a composite of more words? No

Did Abby see an animal? This A human? A common animal? Yes A bird? A cat? A dog? An animal with some special charachteristics? A real world living thing? This A cartoon?
Did Abby see the living thing: on a phone? Binoculars? Live? This Near her? and this On a screen?

How fitting = how appropiate the name Abby gave to the livong thing? No How something fitted to the living thing? Please rephrase

Consequence = for someone in particular? For a group of people For the livibg thing? No For nature? Potentially For seas? for human beings? For some human beings Pollution relevant? Environment?

Covid relevant? No

WAG: something like Abby saw an animal who usually live in very hot regions. The fact that it was there meant that climate was warringly changes Good guess, but no

Animal = insect? Bird? Mammal? Dog? Cat? Ant? Wasp? Bee? Mosquito? Fly? Deer? Pig? Cow? Sheep? Goat? Others? A fish? A butterfly?

WAG--> Superstition relevant? you were in a bus with few other people and saw a black ladybug which is symbol of bad luck.

Is the animal associated with low hygene? With smell?
Was the animal alive? Dead? "Normal" (i.e. as it would appear in normal conditions)? Hidden? camouflaged?

Did he see you? Did he fear you? Was it usual to see such animal in such place? Was the animal caught up in some engine?
Did you try to reach the animal?

Was the animal behaving unusually? Surrounded by unusual things? Was there some relevant unusual aspect to its appearance?

Is there some relevant symbolism associated with it? Is the animal widely eaten or put to some use? Is it domesticated? Is it typically wild? Is it sea-bound? Air-bound? Land-bound? Homeward bound? Leather-bound?

The animal = a mouse?
Did they see the animal outdoors? in a place where animals like this usually live?
"how fitting" = fitting that they see this animal? in this place?
Is the name of the place relevant? (Muizenberg comes to mind)
Do they see exactly one animal of this kind? relevant?

Is the official name of a town or city relevant? or a nickname? name of a part of a town? name of a street or square? other place name?
Is the animal a rodent? a carnivore? an insectivore?
WAG: is it a hedgehog?
The worrisome implications: is there another place with a name build the same way (on the name of an animal) but you would rather not like to find animals of this kind there?

Is a place named after foxes? Is the implication that humans moved into and took over an area where foxes used to live? My address is at "Wild Strawberry Hill", but it's all buildings and no wild strawberries, which is sad.

Is a place named after foxes? Yes, a street called "Fox Lane" Is the implication that humans moved into and took over an area where foxes used to live? No My address is at "Wild Strawberry Hill", but it's all buildings and no wild strawberries, which is sad. That's sad indeed, but maybe you can plant some?

WAG: Is the Vossenplein flea market relevant? No
And the 2013 meme is the Montgomery flea market? No, the meme is What Does The Fox Say?, but it has no relevance to the puzzle other than also referencing foxes.

Coincidentally, there's a "Fox Lane" right by where I live. I've never seen an actual fox there, though.

Are the implications related to the fact that foxes are being driven into neighborhoods where people live because they have less wild habitat available to them? to the fact that there were probably more foxes around when the street was named?

Are the implications related to: the street? The street name? The origin of the name? The fox that is seen? Foxes in the area? Foxes in history? Foxes in general?

Was the street actually named after foxes? or maybe after a person named Fox?
Is the idea that the name of the street attracts foxes?

Is the implication that if there are foxes on Fox Lane, there might also be __X__ on __X__ lane, where X is something much scarier/more undesirable than foxes?

********SPOILER********

Abby and Jamie are taking a walk in a neighbourhood where all streets are named after animals when they spot a fox on Fox Lane. Jamie jokingly says "How fitting! But if you think it all the way through, the implications are rather worrisome: I don't want rhinos, polar bears or lions roaming around my neighbourhood!"
