WAG: "Hi Sarah, can you hang up?"
Does Derek want Sarah to hang up? Does Sarah do what Derek wants her to? Has Sarah asked for this call? Is she expecting it? Is it a regular phone call? Using cell phones? Is it a regulr hanging up of a phone call? WAG2: "Hi Sarah, can you hang up the painting?"

Derek = H/A/M? Sarah = H/A/F? Do they know each other? If so, are they married? in a relationship? dating? parent/child? siblings? other relatives? friends? acquaintances? business partners? co-workers? service provider and client?

Does Sarah say anything during the call? Does she decide to hang up before taking the call? Before Derek uttered the phrase? While he did it? Afterwards?

Did Sarah misunderstand what Derek said? Did she hang up purely because of the phrase? Would she have talked to Derek if he had said something else?

Is Derek a telemarketer? Government worker? Did he call the right number?

Does Derek speak English? Does Sarah understand the language Derek speaks in? Does Sarah think he's speaking a different language?

Relevant how Derek got Sarah's number? If so, was he given a list of numbers he is supposed to call? Did he compile such a list himself? Does he randomly dial numbers? Did he specifically search for Sarah's number?

Is he conducting a survey?

Did Derek mention something Sarah knew was false? Something she knew only a scammer would say?

Did he ask her to do something? To give him some kind of information?

Does the scammer purport to: sell something? Buy something? Represent someone he doesn't? Offer a deal? A partnership in a crime? An MLM/pyramid scheme?

Is the scam 419? Related to computers? Microsoft?

WAG: Derek tries to get Sarah to log onto the Internet. She uses dialup, so the moment she does, the phone is disconnected.

Does he ask her for a personal ID? Such as her SSN/SIN?

Does he ask her a password-y type of question, such as “What is your mother’s maiden name?”? Does she have the thing that is the answer? (Like, she didn’t have a mother, or whatever?)

Is the question one a person would be likely to hear outside of a phone call? Is it a greeting?

Is any of the following relevant about Sarah: Her profession ? Her surname? Place of residence? Educational background? Religious beliefs? Hobbies? Relationship status? Gender? Sexual orientation? What cell provider she’s with? Her financial status?

Is the question something like: "May I speak to Sarah, please?" "Can I speak to the man of the house?" (shudder) "Is your parent around?" "Can I talk to you about [x]?" "Can I confirm [some bit of personal information, such as address, SIN/SSN, phone number called...]?" (Technically, I think this would still be a yes/no question.)

Is Sarah's age relevant? Is her gender relevant? Her profession? Is there something about her that would make the question stupid/pointless/redundant coming from someone who knew her?

Would her answer to the question be yes? No?

I'm trying to think of how to ask this concisely so it makes sense...is it just because we have cell phones now and not landlines, and most people are unlisted, so anyone calling should either be someone we know or someone we've given our contact info to for some reason, so if an unknown number calls and doesn't identify themselves immediately and explain their connection to us, we just hang up on them?

Did he ask "Who is this?" "Who do I have the pleasure of speaking to today?" Or something that made it clear he was calling at random?

Is it fair to say her reason for hanging up is that she immediately recognizes him as a scammer and simply doesn't want to waste her time talking to him?
