Complete stalks? with roots? live stalks (i.e, that could be planted and would grow)?
Is he doing that in order to protect himself? to win a case? to avoid having to pay money? to prove a point?
Is the person he buys the stalks from relevant?
Taxation relevant? (corn cobs and complete stalks maybe taxed differently)

Is Simon seeing his lawyer due to being involved in a litigation case? If so, civil? Criminal? As plaintiff? As defendant?

Is he seeking legal advice? For his business? For taxation? For conveyancing?

Will Simon present the stalks in court? Use them as a symbol of something?

Did the lawyer advise Simon to buy them? Does Simon do this to benefit himself? His lawyer? Someone he cares about? Does he do this to be detrimental to someone else?

Is Simon relevantly a farmer or landowner?

Is insurance relevant? Is privacy relevant?
WAG: There were speed cameras in front of his house. Whenever a car breaks the velocity limits a picture was taken in which also his car was present. Hence, each time a fine arrives at his house. He went to his lawyer who told him that he said "hey Simone, it would have been a can of corn if it was a speed gun!". So he got the idea of planting the corns to cover his car.

several corn stalks = enough to transplant a field?

Is there anything unusual about the corn plants (other than the fact that they're corn plants--like for example if they were a patented type of genetically modified corn)?

Would any plant with edible parts work? any plant that grows over a certain height? any plant that grows dense enough to block the view through the field?

Does this have to do with fencing (in the 'perimeter wall' sense) or property boundaries? Views? Housing values?

Did he plant the corn stalks in a row? along the boundary of his land? on the side facing the street or a sidewalk?
Is some legal requirement about the distance plants must have from the boundary? like, plants that grow highet than 2 metres must be at least 1 metre away from the boundary?
Google Street View relevant?
Relevant that corn is edible? Woulf other high growing edible plants work as well (like tomatoes)?

Are the other plants his? Does he want them to: thrive? Die? Behave differently? Does he plant the corn near the plants? Are the other plants endangered? Does he want to remove them, but isn't allowed to? But if they're in a patch of corn, he's just weeding his cornfield, which is allowed? Edit: herbicides relevant? Pesticides? Synthetic fertilizers? Other chemicals?

Are the other plants growing somewhere near his house? near the place where the corn will be planted?
Did he remove the other plants? was he forced to remove them? did the plants die?
Was the corn to replace this plants? to be planted instead of them? to resemble them in some way?
Were there strict rules on what one could plant in front of the house? and corn was one of the things that was still allowed?
Are the other plats edible as well?
Will the corn be planted to conceal them?

Does he plant the corn in order to point out that the rules are nonsensical? Does he rather want his old plants back?

Edit: did he ask the lawyer to find a loophole in what they'd told him? Did the lawyer speak to anyone else? Did the HOA write something relevant down? Such as a list of rules and regulations?

********SPOILER********

Simon plants sunflowers in front of his house, but his HOA makes him remove them. He then asks his lawyer to review the HOA contract to see if there's any way to keep the sunflowers. The lawyer finds that the contract includes a long list of plants that are not allowed (including sunflowers) and, in a throwaway comment, points out that corn is allowed. This gives Simon an idea: He replaces the sunflowers with unsightly corn stalks, and once the HOA notices how ugly they look, they allow him to plant his sunflowers again.

Well done, Sunflower, err, Sundowner, and thanks for playing everyone!
