[Bardificer] It sparks joy pt. 2

Postby Bardificer » Sat Oct 08, 2022 1:19 pm

Julie unexpectedly found a collection of rare and often sought-after things. She took one to show her mom. Her mom told her it was perfectly fine to keep the one she had, but she would be smart to leave the rest exactly where they were, and not tell anyone about them. In fact, she might want to gather up some of the much more common things that were sitting nearby. Why?

Are these items natural? man-made?
Did someone collect the items in that place before? did they just end up to be there?
Would taking the items require some effort (other than just picking them up)? like: digging something out, cutting something off, ..
Are the items someone else's property? Julie's property? did she inherit them?
Do the items have a practical value? material value? decorative value? emotional value?
WAG: Are these items food?

Is Julie a child? If so, relevant how old?

Does she show the item to her mom in person? send her a picture? facetime her?

Is Julie indoors when this happens? outdoors?

Are they insects? Butterflies? Fireflies? Fish?

Was her mom worried about the things being killed? Damaged? About damage to the area that would be caused if more people found out about these things?

Did Julie take one to her because because she thought it was pretty? Thought it was interesting? Because she wanted to keep it as a pet? Wanted to plant it? Because she knew of some other value it had?

Do the other common things nearby: protect what Julie found? Entice people? Entice predators? Do they have a parasitic relationship with whatever Julie found? A beneficial one, to both things?

Did Julie's mom suggest that Julie gather the other common things just so that Julie wouldn't be disappointed?

Sundowner64

Parts of plants? Yes. such as berries? Not these.
Animals? or parts of animals, like seashells? eggs? No to rest.
Did she find the items in the garden? This is likely. in a forest? Or this. in a sand box? at the roadside? Maybe. at the beach? under water? No to rest.

trebor2

Are they insects? Butterflies? Fireflies? Fish? No to all.

Was her mom worried about the things being killed? Thisish. Damaged? About damage to the area that would be caused if more people found out about these things?

Did Julie take one to her because because she thought it was pretty? This is possible... Thought it was interesting? This is likely, but also... Because she wanted to keep it as a pet? Wanted to plant it? Because she knew of some other value it had? This.

Do the other common things nearby: protect what Julie found? Entice people? Entice predators? Do they have a parasitic relationship with whatever Julie found? This is OTRT, but... A beneficial one, to both things? No to all.

Did Julie's mom suggest that Julie gather the other common things just so that Julie wouldn't be disappointed? No.

Are the common things around mushrooms? are they edible? do have any other practical use?
Would removing the common things around improve the growth of the other plant?
Was the part of the plant she collected a sprout/shoot/twig? leaf? fruit? cone/pod? seed?
Is the plant a young tree?
Does she want to use the item she collected for decoration? for crafting something? for trading it against something else?

Are the common things around mushrooms? No. are they edible? Ehhh...they're not commonly eaten, but they're not toxic. do have any other practical use? I'll say no, but DOYD of "practical."
Would removing the common things around improve the growth of the other plant? Yes!
Was the part of the plant she collected a sprout/shoot/twig? leaf? This. fruit? cone/pod? seed?
Is the plant a young tree? No.
Does she want to use the item she collected for decoration? for crafting something? for trading it against something else? Irrel, it could be used for any one of these, but usually just having it is the primary goal.

Is the leaf a special variety or something which would have a use? E.G. a house or food for a creature like a caterpillar or bird? Or silkworm?

I hesitate to say it has an actual "use," but many people would take it for a specific reason.

Were the more common things three-leaf clovers? Relevant why she should get the comon things from nearby the four-leaf clovers? Would they improve the growing conditions of the four-leaf clovers? Would she put them with her four-leaf clover in order to make it less obvious?

Julie finds a bunch of four-leaf clovers, picks one and shows it to her mom. Her mom tells her to keep the one she already picked but to not pick the others. Instead, she suggests Julie pick some of the three-leaf clovers growing nearby - because this would improve the growing conditions for the four-leaf clovers and more people would have the chance to find one?

**********************************SPOILER

Just as Doriana says above! The practice of picking any four-leaf clover you find makes the mutation genetically disadvantageous for the plant, and can thus make them even rarer. The mother suggests instead picking some of the non-lucky clovers, and seeing if this helps select for more four-leaf stems.

I was imagining a less selfless motive for the pair, though--simply cultivating their own bed of four-leaf clovers and thereby having a monopoly on the luck.
