EDIT...
They WOULD still have to get a disclaimer letter from their wives if their trousers were another colour.

Do they need a disclaimer letter because the acitivity is dangerous per se? because it's something where married men normally not should take part? is the disclaimer part of a tradition?
Do only married men take part in this activity? also other men but only the married need a disclaimer? do also women take part in this activity? if yes: would married women also need a similar disclaimer from their husbands?
Is the activity sort of a sports event? show? theatre play? reenactment?

Are the animals hunted? merely observed?
Would the trousers be dirtied from something the animals do specifically? or just from generally spending time in the outdoor environment where this takes place?

Are the animals ferrets?
Is the idea of the competition to carry ferrets on or in the trousers over a distance?
Is the request of a disclaimer for married men based on the fallacious assumption that for unmarried men noone would care about potential damage?

Is time required? Are the ferrets supposed to so something specific? Will they scratch? Bite? Scurry? Try to escape? Get comfortable? is the disclaimer related to the trousers? To something else? Edit: are the wives signing a waiver that it's ok for their husbands to risk injury to their reproductive bits?

Ferret Legging is a game played in Yorkshire, England, mostly by men. The winner is the one who can keep their ferret in their trousers for the longest time; the record is over 5 hours. They wear white trousers so the blood can be seen, for the delectation of the spectators. The married men, if their wives are of childbearing age, must get disclaimer letters from their wives to allow them to take part. Some women take part by putting the ferrets down their blouses.
Reg Mellor [aka 'George' in this puzzle] was the champion many years running and his endurance time was c. 5 hours & 30mins. Reg said, "I had ’em hangin’ from me tool for hours an’ hours an’ hours! Two at a time — one on each side."
