I had a horrible toothache on 9/11, and the nurse called my mother to tell her what was going on. The nurse was blissfully unaware of the events of the morning, as the school had elected not to tell staff to avoid worrying students. My mom, however, knew full well what was going on, assumed the nurse knew as well, and said "The world is ending and you're bothering me about a toothache?" The nurse assumed she was crazy until she found out what was going on

No, I was in New York State, about 75 miles north of Manhattan. But yeah, the fear was real there too, and the nurse was way too far away from Ground Zero to be able to look out the window and see the smoke, unlike here probably.
