[WiZ] One at a Christmastime, Please

Postby WiZ » Mon Dec 20, 2021 2:03 am

Late one night, a man is safely and soundly asleep. He then receives a phone call from a total stranger. They talk briefly about the weather and hang up. The man is very pleased. Why?

Did the man expect the call? Ask for/order it? Want it? Hope for it?

Had the man given his contact info to the stranger via the internet? A tangible form he filled out? Phone call? Via his involvement in a club/society?

Trebor

Had the man given his contact info to the stranger via the internet? Most likely this, in this day and age A tangible form he filled out? Phone call? either of these would also work Via his involvement in a club/society? no

Does the caller realistically call: anyone who wants to be called? Anyone who wants to be called, and is in a geographical location likely to also receive the aurora? Just a few people? Just this guy?

Does the caller realistically call: anyone who wants to be called? yes Anyone who wants to be called, and is in a geographical location likely to also receive the aurora? anyone who has requested this call would be in such a place Just a few people? Just this guy? no to both (although the number of people called would, in practice, be low)

Late one night, a man is safely and soundly asleep. He then receives a phone call from a total stranger, because he asked to be called if there was chance he could see the aurora. They talk briefly about the great opportunity for seeing the aurora and hang up. The man is very pleased, because he gets to see the aurora.

Is this all correct? All we need to find out?

Is this all correct? All we need to find out? In terms of the lateral logic, this is everything - I suppose you could chalk the context up to trivia.

***** SPOILER *****

He is on holiday in Iceland. His hotel has a service where he can request a wake-up call if Aurora Borealis becomes visible at night, and he takes advantage of this.

Well done, GalFisk, on the solution, and thank you everyone for playing!
