[Doriana] Bored game

Postby doriana_ » Fri May 06, 2022 3:33 pm

At a yard sale, I saw a copy of a board game that I've had my eye on for a while. The game was cheap and in good condition, and I had enough cash on me to pay for it. So why did I decide not to buy it?

True story, so I = Doriana = H/A/F

Does it matter what game it was? Had something relevant happened between 'having your eyes on it' and now having the opportunity to buy it? Are other people relevant in this puzzle?

Other people: HCM, HCF, HAM, HAF? Number of players relevant (list of numbers if so)? Did the game come in different editions? E.g. Trivial Pursuit might have cards which were out of date or from a different country...? Was anything missing or damaged?

Did you want to buy the game for someone else?
Other relevant people: people who you wanted to play the game with?
Language relevant? was the game description in a language some relevant people would not understand?
Was it a branded game? or something generic like chess or go? if branded game: was it an original version?
Did something you saw on the cover make you think over?

Did you feel that the other people were more deserving of it, would get more from it than you, or something along those lines?

Was the game in a language other than English? Can you (doriana) speak that language? Can the potential other players/your friends speak that language? Did you overhear potential buyers speaking that language? Did you figure that the other players would want or need that game more than you, or that it would be more appropriate for them?

Is it relevant which language? Did/do you already know these people? Do you have some relationship or connection to them, e.g. they are your pupils? Are you teaching them a language? If you are a teacher, did you set them homework?

Did you want to buy and use the game as a means of your friends learning the language whilst having fun? But when you saw them buying the game themselves, you realised you didn't need to?

Did the game involve reading texts? so that you felt your knowledge of Dutch would give you an unfair advantage?
Were you not fond of the idea having to translate everything all the time?
Did you expect that you easily might find also an English edition of the game? (is there an English edition at all? is it a traditional Dutch game?)

Were you not fond of the idea having to translate everything all the time? Correct, and it would also be a lot less fun to play for the others if they can't read the texts themselves / have to ask all the time
Did you expect that you easily might find also an English edition of the game? Yes (is there an English edition at all? Yes is it a traditional Dutch game? No)

Sarisberie
So, they didnt buy the game themselves? Correct, but I think there's still an FA Or they might have, but you didn't know either way? No Relevant? Not really

Are "they" an existing group? People you've met? Are you going abroad? And want to bring this game to play with people you meet?

********SPOILER********
I'm moving back to Germany in two months. I saw a copy of a board game that I like at a yard sale, but decided not to buy it because a Dutch game isn't much use when you're playing with a German-speaking friend group.

Thanks for playing!
