Burmese pythons are an invasive species in the Everglades, yet the government deliberately releases new ones into the area. Why?

Male snakes are released into the Everglades with attached electronic tracking devices. They immediately go looking for mates, and biologists follow. Recently this technique was used to find and trap a 215-pound female python and 122 eggs!
