[WiZ] E-Quality

Postby WiZ » Sun Sep 11, 2022 11:34 pm

Despite recent moves towards equality in the workforce, there is an aspect of car manufacturing that is still 100% male-dominated. What is it, and why?

True story. Caveat earlispoilor.

Is it dominated by living, biological male humans? (So this makes sense, I mean it in contrast to, for example, crash dummies all being modeled on the average male body because that way they conform to some kind of testing standard)

If it's actual biological humans, does the reason for the male dominance nevertheless have to do with men being the standard reference point for something? with some physical trait of men as apposed to women?

Are we talking of male humans at all? if not: male animals? male in any other context? (male flowers, male connectors)
Would it be in theory possible to replace at least some of the 100% males by females? Would this cause problems? loss in quality? legal issues?
Are no females (in whatever sense) available for this purpose?

Physiological differences between men and women relevant? Biological? Reproductive? Hormonal? Is it a logical reason? Political? Hypocritical?

Crash test dummies relevant? History relevant? Age? Might this male domination change at some point in the future? Robots relevant, past present future?

Biograd

Is it dominated by living, biological male humans? no (So this makes sense, I mean it in contrast to, for example, crash dummies all being modeled on the average male body because that way they conform to some kind of testing standard) but no to this example

If it's actual biological humans, does the reason for the male dominance nevertheless have to do with men being the standard reference point for something? no with some physical trait of men as apposed to women? yes

Sundowner

Are we talking of male humans at all? no if not: male animals? yes male in any other context? (male flowers, male connectors) no to both
Would it be in theory possible to replace at least some of the 100% males by females? yes Would this cause problems? no loss in quality? yes legal issues? no
Are no females (in whatever sense) available for this purpose? no

Galfisk

Physiological differences between men and women relevant? yes Biological? yes, more obliquely Reproductive? yes Hormonal? no Is it a logical reason? yes Political? Hypocritical? no to both

Sarisberie

Crash test dummies relevant? no (although it works well enough as an alternate answer - I was surprised to see that moves towards using dummies with female physiology only started within the last year or so) History relevant? Age? no to both Might this male domination change at some point in the future? theoretically yes, but there isn't much incentive Robots relevant, past present future? outside of their general contribution to the manufacturing process, no

So an animal product from male animals is used in car manufacturing? If so, is it leather?

Are the males insects? Birds? Mammals? Are they involved in the production of a substance that is used in the manufacturing process? Leather relevant? Do these males ever enter the vehicles in question?

Are these males involved in the manufacturing? Is it more like something is done with these males in mind? (ie, perhaps some scent that could come about in the manufacturing process attracts male animals, and to avoid a moose attempting to mate with your Mazda, they take steps to avoid that. Or something.)

Does the male involvement target a specific area of the car? If so: engine? Braking? Wheels? Locks? Car's interior? Trunk/boot? Undercarriage?

When you say there are traits of men that are relevant, and physiological differences relevant between men and women, are you talking about the non-humans?

Moose v Mazda :-D
Reference points, e.g. table/s of past data? Physical trait of male animals = as different to female animals? Strength, other bodily aspects, qualities which females don't possess, pregnancy, mating habits, nurturing young, animals' reactions or reaction times to machines, cars, danger etc, effect of animals splatting on cars? Specific animals as opposed to animals in general? Relevant that some animals like to hide inside car engines etc or even hitch rides? Is this danger related or performance related at all?

Trebor

Are the males insects? Birds? Mammals? this Are they involved in the production of a substance that is used in the manufacturing process? yes Leather relevant? yes Do these males ever enter the vehicles in question? not while alive

Are these males involved in the manufacturing? yes Is it more like something is done with these males in mind? (ie, perhaps some scent that could come about in the manufacturing process attracts male animals, and to avoid a moose attempting to mate with your Mazda, they take steps to avoid that. Or something.) no, but I love the example

Does the male involvement target a specific area of the car? yes If so: engine? Braking? Wheels? Locks? Car's interior? this Trunk/boot? Undercarriage?

Moose v Mazda :-D I've heard of a rotary hoe, but this is ridic-

Reference points, e.g. table/s of past data? n/a (the answer to the initial question was 'no') Physical trait of male animals = as different to female animals? yes Strength no, other bodily aspects yes, qualities which females don't possess no, pregnancy yes, mating habits, nurturing young, animals' reactions or reaction times to machines, cars, danger etc, effect of animals splatting on cars? no to rest Specific animals as opposed to animals in general? yes Relevant that some animals like to hide inside car engines etc or even hitch rides? no Is this danger related or performance related at all? no

So leather is almost always from bulls, since the cows are more valuable for providing milk and therefore are kept alive on farms longer?

Does pregnancy make the leather of cows less usable? less valuable? stretch marks relevant?

Sundowner

***** SPOILER *****

Most luxury car manufacturers use exclusively bulls' leather for their seats, as the hide of cows is compromised by pregnancy stretch marks.

Congratulations, Sundowner, on the solution, and thank you everyone for playing!
