Are either the car or the tire part of a model, or a construction set such as Lego?

I had to laugh at "relation sheep". I can just imagine it, a joke book for kids that says "What do a ram and a ewe have when they love each other?"

Is the tire a joke but the car a serious gift? or vice versa? Is the tire a working tire in good condition? was the car?

Was the gift of a tire meant to refer to the gift of the car? Did they have some specific connection, or was the choice of a tire random? (ie, could he have offered a different car part and the joke would still work?)

For 25 years, brothers-in-law Larry Kunkel and Roy Collette regifted to each other an abhorred pair of moleskin pants, the methods of regifting getting more and more elaborate over time. This included a sequence where Larry sent Roy a crushed car with a note that the pants were in the glove compartment; the following year, Roy sent Larry an oversized concrete-filled tire with the pants inside.
