[WiZ] V.I Pee

Postby WiZ » Mon Feb 19, 2024 11:41 pm

A man leads a VIP guest on a guided tour of a museum. As soon as the guest leaves, the guide races like one possessed to the nearest toilet. But not to use the facilities. Why, then?

True story. Caveat Earlispoilor.

Is the VIP guest human? (I assume so but you never know in a lateral puzzle…) If so, H/A/M? H/A/F?
Type of museum relevant? If so, art? history? natural history? technology? science? other?
Could the man have achieved the same thing by running to a different toilet?
Is something relevantly hidden in/near the toilet? Did the guest forget/lose something in/near the toilet?
Is the man ever in danger over the course of the puzzle? is the VIP guest? is the museum?
Are other people relevant besides the guide and the guest?
Relevant where this happens? When?

Did the guide enter the toilet? did he operate the toilet facilities? flush it? switch on the light?
Would he also done so if he had not lead the guest through the museum?
Did the tour with the VIP guest take longer than planned? was it during regular opening hours of the museum?
Is the guide part of the museum staff? is whatever he did in the toilet part of his job? would the museum benefit from it? would he?
Anything criminal or fishy going on?

Is the VIP guest human? yes (I assume so but you never know in a lateral puzzle…) clearly not your first rodeo :) If so, H/A/M? yes to all H/A/F?
Type of museum relevant? no If so, art? history? natural history? technology? science? other? n/a to all
Could the man have achieved the same thing by running to a different toilet? not necessarily, and certainly not as effectively
Is something relevantly hidden in/near the toilet? no Did the guest forget/lose something in/near the toilet? no
Is the man ever in danger over the course of the puzzle? is the VIP guest? is the museum? yes to all
Are other people relevant besides the guide and the guest? no (within the scope of the puzzle)
Relevant where this happens? When? yes to both

GalFisk

Is the toilet an ordinary toilet? intended for use? Or is it a museum exhibit?

Is the VIP guest a politician? artist? athlete? donor to the museum?
Is the guide part of the VIP guest's staff? Has the guide been to the museum before?

Is the VIP guest in on whatever fishy/criminal thing is going on? is the guide?

Does this take place at night?

Does the guide need to wash something, e.g. an exhibit? A counterfeit item? Something which would damage the item? Something the visitor brought in with him? Was something hidden in the toilet? Did the guide go to the nearest toilet because time was of the essence? Was there an item in that bathroom which wasn't in the others? Was it a bomb or other potentially dangerous item? Was it a comedy or something on TV/film? Set? When it happens: time of day, day of week, year, time period etc? Bomb? Air raid? Toxic item? Were any doors locked?

Was the bomb meant to go up? did it?
Was it meant to kill the VIP?
Did the guide know about the bomb? did he seek shelter from the explosion in the toilet?
Did he activate the bomb? deactivate?
Is the VIP someone we may have heard of? Did it happen in our era? (politician & artist -> Arnold Schwarzenegger?)

Did the guide carry the bomb on his body?

Did the guide carry the bomb on his body? yes

You've got it, in essence

***** SPOILER *****

On 21 March 1943, Hitler visited the Zeughaus Berlin to inspect captured Soviet weapons as part of Heldengedenktag ("Day of Commemoration of Heroes") public holiday. As an expert, Rudolf-Christoph von Gersdorff was to guide Hitler on a tour of the exhibition. Moments after Hitler entered the museum, Gersdorff set off two ten-minute delayed fuses on explosive devices hidden in his coat pockets. His plan was to throw himself around Hitler in a death embrace that would blow them both up. Contrary to expectations, Hitler raced through the museum in less than ten minutes. After he had left the building, Gersdorff was able to defuse the devices in a public bathroom "at the last second."

Congratulations Doriana (and LemonCurry and GalFisk) on the solution, congratulations WiZ for somehow forgetting that most of the remaining active puzzlers were German, and thank you everyone for playing!
