[Doriana] Wanna make the world dance

Postby doriana_ » Sat Sep 07, 2024 3:33 pm

Today, I bought a pair of shoes. The price tag said €133, but they ended up costing me €135.50. Why?

Was the extra €2.50 actually payment for the shoes themselves? Was it payment for something else? For travel? Transportation? Size or weight of something?

Are currency Exchange rates relevant? Taxes? Shipping costs?
Are the 133€ the price for the shoes without laces?

Did you go to a shop to buy the shoes? did you order them online? were they custom-made for you? hand-made?
Are the 2.50 EUR the price for a service? a deposit of some kind? an extra fee due to some special law? a donation to charity? import tax?
Relevant what kind of shoes? sports shoes? hiking shoes?

Was the extra money a fee? Tax? Did it go to the seller of the shoes? To someone else? Was it lost?

Would there have been also a chance to get the shoes for 133 EUR? Did you volunteer to pay the extra 2.50?
Does the extra money go: to an individual? to a group of people? to an organization? to a business? to the government? unknown?
Do you know the people in person who would receive the extra money?
(I hope it's not just that the guy at the cashier pockets the 2.50 .. )
Did you pay in cash? credit card? other card? gift coupon? paypal/..-pay? relevant?
Could the same situation come up when you buy other items than shoes? in a different shop?
Is the country relevant where that happens? (other than it's a country with Euro currency)

Does the extra money go: to an individual? to a group of people? to an organization? to a business? This to the government? unknown?
Do you know the people in person who would receive the extra money? No
(I hope it's not just that the guy at the cashier pockets the 2.50 .. )
Did you pay in cash? credit card? other card? gift coupon? paypal/..-pay? relevant? Irrel
Could the same situation come up when you buy other items than shoes? in a different shop? A somewhat similar situation could arise with different items, but much less likely
Is the country relevant where that happens? (other than it's a country with Euro currency) No (Germany)

Is the other business also a shoe seller? Other store? A charity? Mass transit company? Food place? Did this extra money gain you anything? Gain the receiver of the money anything, apart form the money? Does anyone else do this thing that you did? Multiple other people?

Did you give the 2.50 to the same person you paid for the shoes to? together with the 133 EUR? did you use the same payment method?
Was there someone from the other business present and you gave him the money? did you put the money into a box?
Would the money earn you a service? a tangible product? had you received the product or service already when you paid the 2.50? would you receive it immediately after? later? much later? whenever a situation comes up that you would need it?
Is the thing you would get for the 2.50 related to the shoes? some kind of repair or refurbishing?
Would this payment require or trigger future payments? is it some kind of subscription or membership fee? an insurance?
Did you simply want to support local businesses?

So you bought something for €2.50 at another store before buying the shoes?
Did the object you bought help you trying the shoes on? A makeshift shoehorn? An ice-pack against swollen feet?

Did you have to transfer funds from one account/card/payment service to another, and there was a transfer fee?

Did you have to pay for parking? Transit fare? A really cheap Uber/taxi/other ride service? Like, maybe you didn't have a pair of shoes at all, and so to go to the nearest store and buy some you spend €2.50 on a getting there so you don't have to walk in bare/sock feet?

Was the whatever you spent the money on a service? A tangible product? Entry into somewhere? How much, for example, do public toilets cost in Germany? (It's been twenty years since I was there, and I can't even remember how much they cost back then, let alone have an idea of the cost now.) Did you decide to go and wash your feet before trying on shoes?

Curiosity satisfied!

Did you buy: Socks? Insoles/orthotics? Something to mimic insoles or orthotics? Something to assist you in bending over? In raising your feet so you can reach them? Something that you would like to wear with the shoes? Something you might pair with the shoes, like for matching a colour palette?

Were the shoes for you?

Did you need the socks in order to try on the shoes?
Didn't you have socks with you? did your socks get torn or dirty on the way?
Were there no try-on socks available in the shoe store?
Did you just like the socks so you bought them?

Were there no try-on socks available in the shoe store? Also correct

********SPOILER********
The other day, I walked into a shoe store wearing sandals with no socks. I saw a pair of shoes that I liked and wanted to try them on, but the store was all out of disposable try-on socks. So I went to the drugstore across the street and bought a pair of socks for EUR 2.50 before returning to the shoe store and trying on the shoes.

Thanks for playing, everyone, and congrats on the solve, Sundowner!
