Is it relevant how many of "them" there were? Did he know them personally? Did they benefit from what they apparently loved?
Is location relevant?

Is he doing some sort of performance? Can he see himself? His surroundings? Does he intend for them to love it? Or at least like it? Is he doing a magic trick? Are they an audience? did they laugh? Cheer? Applaud? Could he see them if he wanted to? Would him seeing them limit their enjoyment? Did he make a mistake?

Was the fact that he couldn't see them part of the show? Was he blindfolded?

The reason you cannot see them: you're looking another way? Something is blocking the line of sight? Are you dancing? Balancing? Doing some other mainly physical thing? Do they see you directly? Your reflection? Your shadow? Only part of you? Are you on a stage?

Did you use a relevant prop that came into your way of sight? Were you wearing a relevant costume that limited your sight?
Was the show a theater play?

Redwine, I nearly forgot what a tenacious questioner you were. Glad to parry with you again.

Do they see your face? Can you not see them because you have light in your eyes? Stage lights aimed at you?

Do they see your face? they see everything Can you not see them because you have light in your eyes? Stage lights aimed at you? BANG! -- and the puzzle dies...

+++++++SPOILER+++++++
When onstage in live theater, the lights are so bright in your eyes, and “the house” is so dark, that you can hear their acclaim, but can't see them. Always nice when the audience responds favorably to one of your acting choices.
per GalFisk's earlier question, "could you see them if you wanted to?" and whether that him seeing them would limit their enjoyment: an actor could shield the bright lights with his hand, as if bright sunlight, but would be breaking character, so you just let yourself be blinded and alone, under the lights, and "strut and fret," per my old buddy, Shakespeare.
