Does Mary not punish John because:
-he is facing other consequences already?
-she does not want to kick him while he's down?
-she would face a similar punishment? No to all
Is Mary a client of John's? No
Does Mary have/see evidence of John having lied? No direct evidence, but see next set of questions.
So was Mary John's teacher? Yes, slight ish
Did John lie in a way that he knew he would have been discovered? Yes, it would have been obvious Did he relevantly lie in front of other people? You can assume others besides him and Mary were there but it's mainly relevant for context. Did he blame someone else? No, slight ish Something else? No Did he want someone to laugh? Mary? No to both
Is food relevant (e.g. he ate a piece of a cake and had crumbs on his lips/clothes)? Technology? Theater? Toys? Other children? Birthday party? No to all
Did John eventually know that Mary understood that he lied? Yes, explore If so, did he believe that the lie saved him directly Yes[ (i.e. because he believed that Mary did not understand that he was lying)? But definitely not for this reason.
WAG: Can Mary read minds? No, haha
Is Mary a medical professional? She's a teacher, with the ish as noted above Is John a patient? No[b]
Is the lie about something visible? For example something he thinks Mary cannot see but she can (because of a mirror behind him or something)? [b]No to these
You imply that John would have known Mary knew he lied because she didn't punish him. Was the punishment fixed? Known to John? Related to the offense in some way? Likely no to all, but there's an underlying FA here.
