Honoring someone? A contest? Relevant what sort of customes they dress up in normally? On this day? If so, normally: animal costumes? Famous people? Fictional characters? On this day: someone famous? Is it a Disney character? Is it a character that the Disney company created? That Disney himself created? That Disney now owns the rights to? May the 4th/Leia relevant? Are the women indeed dressing up as a female character? Cinderella? Sleeping Beauty? Snow White? Is the character from the 1920s? 30s? 40s? etc.?

Are they honouring the fictional character? Recognizing/commemorating/acknowledging a holiday? Making a political statement? I have to get this thought out of my head, but please don't tell me that non-Indigenous people parade around as Pocahontas on Indigenous Peoples' Day. Or maybe there are Indigenous employees at the park who go as Pocahontas on Columbus Day to highlight the impacts of colonialism?

WAG: Was/is there a girl whose favourite character is Moana, who is very ill? Is she watching the race and able to see all the Moanas running for her?
