[Sarisberie] Feersum Endjinn

Postby Sarisberie » Mon May 30, 2022 8:40 pm

In the middle of the night, I went downstairs only to discover something terrible… which I immediately made even worse by doing the thing I absolutely MUST NOT DO! What was it, what did I do, and why did I do it?

Did you discover a grease fire? Which you poured water on? A regular fire? Which you let in more air to? Ants? Which you squished? Releasing the acid? Attracting revenge ants? A destructive animal? Which you startled? Or angered? Causing further destruction? Something slippery? Which you slipped on?

Was anyone hurt? Anything damaged? Was the first terrible thing caused by you? Other human(s)? Animal(s)? Machine(s)?

Did a snail enter your house? Did it do any damage apart from leaving behind a trail of slime?
Did you step on the snail? accidentally?
Did you take up the snail with bare hands?

Did you try to wash off the slime from your hands? (which, actually, is a futile attempt, better just let it dry, it will peel off itself)

Is the slug's response to being picked up relevant? Relevant for how long you held it? In which way? Where you put it? How it came to be there in the first place? Where it came from? How big it was? Which species? Are any other slugs relevant? Any other animals? Any humans except you?

Was the slug on the floor? on a wall? on the ceiling? on a door? window? table? piece of furniture? in the sink?
Was it actually unnecessary to pick up the slug in order to get rid of it? was it on the way out of the house anyway? was it in the garbage can?

Was it actually unnecessary to pick up the slug in order to get rid of it? Under 'normal' circs I would've got someone else to get rid of it was it on the way out of the house anyway? I dunno, it didn't tell me :D was it in the garbage can? no

As per the puzzle statement:
the terrible thing = a slug entered your house?
the one thing that made it worse = you picked it up with your bare fingers?
still to find out = why you did do that?

Did you pick up the slug because there was nothing at hand to protect your fingers? like a piece of paper, a glove ..
Were you in a hurry?
Did you simply not think of the consequences?

Do slugs have defense mechanism that involves squirting more slime when threatened? Is this what happened? Did you have a misconception about how the slug would react to being picked up?

Did you think it was gonna start singing, “Too Bad”? (Possibly too Canadian of a reference; song by 80s Canadian band Doug and the Slugs. Maybe not worth making the joke at all, really. Oh well.)

Had it been morning, with the lights on, would you have done anything different? Outside?

Was your thought process: "Oh, a slug. I must pick it up." Or was there something between these two sentences?

******************************$POYLER********************************************************************************
I’m terrified of slugs. I came down to use the bathroom whilst sleepwalking, and saw - by the tiny plug light - a slug on the floor. At first, I didn’t realise what it was and picked it up. I had to run to the front door, throw it outside, and then I realised I had slime stuck all over my fingers, which would NOT wash off under the hot tap. Eventually, I realised I needed to use soap. I spent the rest of the night shivering in my bed. If I hadn’t been sleepwalking, I wouldn’t’ve picked it up in the first place.

Well done to Galfisk for the solve, and to everyone else for taking part.
