[Jondahr] But one ring could have ruined everything [POTY24]

Jon and Jane are walking down a road. Jon picks up his phone and speaks into it, but doesn't get any reply. Both Jon and Jane are feeling better now.

Relevant relationship between Jon and Jane? HA or HC?
Was Jon expecting a reply? Had he rung the number, did someone ring him, neither? Were there any other calls related to this matter (if so, number of calls)?

Was John actually making or receiving a call, or pretending? Does location matter? Was John hoping for a relationship with Jane, or vice versa? Was there any subterfuge going on? Did Jane respond in any way to John's not-making or not-receiving a call? Was it a smartphone? Was his interaction with it actually nothing to do with its basic function as a phone?

Does Jane understand that Jon is faking a call? Relevant which words he uses? Relevant who he pretends to have called?
Is his phone broken? battery down? no connection to the cell?
Does Jane have a phone?
Are they expecting a call?
Are Jon and Jane co-workers? Are they at work when walking down the street? Are they police?

Does Jon like Jane? Does Jane like Jon? Are they related? Does Jon feel better as in: more relaxed? Safer? Happier? More content? More optimistic? More appreciated? Like he has succeeded with something? Like he tricked someone? Like something has been cleared up? Solved? Same q's (with she's) for Jane.

Why? How far? For how long? Is Jon in trouble? Is Jane? Crime relevant? Are they walking side by side? Are they talking? Is Jon walking behind Jane? In front of her? Do they know each oter at all? communicate, apart from her hearing his "call"? Does he make a fake phone call to make it sound like he's not a danger to her? Is he a danger to her?

Were they out of reach of a mobile mast at the time, and if so, did Jon know that? Does John (pretend to) call: his mum, dad, other family member, work, ex-girlfriend, other? Does Jon pretend to be checking in with someone, e.g. his mum? Is Jane concerned that Jon wants to be in a relationship? That Jon wants anything else?

Did Jon pretend to call someone Jane knows? Does the content of the faked conversation have some meaning for Jane? Is it to calm down Jane? Is Jane in danger? Did Jon promise to Jane to call a particular person?
Did Jon pretend to call the police? a doctor?
Are Jon or Jane in a state of emergency? or perceive the situation that way?
Has any of them relevant health issues? mental health issues?
Could Jon actually in reality have made the call he faked? Did he have a functional mobile phone? was he in reach of a cell? was the person he called actually existing and alive? (WAG: Did he pretend to call Santa Claus?)

So sorry everyone, I dropped off the face of the Earth for a year and a half there due to a lot of unexpected stuff happening all at once in my life. This has basically been solved back at the end of 2022, so since it's still here I suppose I'd better do a very late...

****SPOILER****

Jon happens to end up walking behind Jane on a deserted road late at night. He can sense that she is getting nervous about having a strange man walk close behind her, so he gets out his phone and pretends to have a conversation, trying to get across as a harmless guy (talking in a bright and cheerful voice, addressing his girlfriend and so on). This works, making Jane relax. However, had his phone actually started ringing while he was pretending to talk in it, this would probably have ruined the illusion and made the situation even worse than before.
