[Sarisberie] Say My Name, Say My Name

Postby Sarisberie2 » Mon Apr 03, 2023 2:40 am

When I was young and people had to write my name, they usually got it wrong, which was a nuisance. A decade later, something happened which made it more annoying. What, and why?

To clarify, is the "it" in the second sentence the misspelling of your name by others writing it down?
Is your age at either time relevant?

Did a decade later something happen that made it more annoying? or rather, you, growing up, realized how actually terrible it is?
Is the annoying thing the fact that people misspell your name? that you have to explain how to write your name? or is the wrong spelling itself the annoying thing? like. people spell your name like that of a person you don't like at all?
Do you have an unusual name? a common name but with an untypical spelling? is there a more common, but wrong, spelling of your name?
Is it your first name? last name? both?

A decade later: the 2010s? the 2000s? the 1990s? the 1980s?
Is the event (the thing that happened) something we might have heard of? something that was in the news? a one-time event? an ongoing change? related to technology? an internet phenomenon?
Did the way how your name was misspelt change? Did the event give a justification for the wrong spelling? (like: suppose your surname was Picacciu)
Is the kind of misspelling relevant? Did people omit a letter? add a letter? use a wrong letter? spell it phonetically?
Is the annoying thing to see how many people can't spell such a common name correctly?
Is there a famous persom with the same surname? who spells it differently than you?

Did the thing that happened = this person getting famous?
Did the fame of this person end the misspellings? Or diminish them? Did this person's fame cause you annoyance? Are you related to this person? Do people think you are? Do people talk of this person when they hear your name?

Is your last name any of the following, or a homonym thereof: Smith? Brown? Black? White? Williams? Johnson? Carter? Pitt? Farrell? Pierce? Depp? Damon? Affleck?Cooper? Goodman? Gooding? Schumacher? Sloane? Baker? Prince? King? Downey? Is it a name that denotes a profession? (Such as baker, smith, etc.) That specifies that you are a child of so-and-so, like Johnson?

What does "YMMV" mean? Was the actor initially associated with one role, but maybe not as much now? Was the actor an adult in the 90s?

When you were young, did people misspell it as "Pit", like the hole in the ground? And then a decade later, Brad Pitt became famous and then they stopped doing this, but started doing something else? Did they suggest you might be related to Brad?

Either of the William Pitts relevant? NO... although, irrelevant fact, when I was a kid we lived a mile from one of their houses, 'Pitt House'.

Is your profession relevant?

Did people start making a comment that compared you to him? That compared his finances/fame/looks to yours? Did they say something like, "I bet people say this all the time, but..."? or, "I bet no one gets your name wrong!"

Do these annoying comments happen in a financial-related context? like when you sign a check?

Do people suggest that you must be rich, since you're "a member of the Pitt family"? that you wish you were as rich as Brad Pitt but will never be?

Do people suggest that you must be rich, since you're "a member of the Pitt family"? not this, but... that you wish you were as rich as Brad Pitt but will never be? Exactly!

JenBurdoo1 wrote:Was he in the news for a relevant reason that year? For example, was he the richest man in Hollywood? irr

********************************************$POILER******************************************************

Whenever I had to give my name, people tended to get it wrong. (I don't think 'Pitt' is hard to spell, but there you go). I was even told, on occasion, that I was spelling my own name incorrectly!
Anyway, once Brad came on the scene, I would say, "Pitt, as in "Brad Pitt", and then they would ALWAYS say, "I bet you wish you had his money," and then they would laugh.

Well done everyone 8-)
